Mildred
Jarrett's passion for painting offers a wealth of emotions
for the viewer to consider. She makes honest statements with
a force of strong conviction. Sometimes refined and
thoughtful, and at other times brutally blunt, the body of
her work is consistent with an intensity of commitment and a
super-charged energy, the roots of which are firmly anchored
in Abstract Expressionism.
The powerful,
painterly quality of this artist's work exemplifies movement
and rhythm with a tempo that reveals urgency. Layered areas
of color, combined with fragments of fabric, paper, and
various materials, along with meandering lines suggest
restless movement, and through it, the spirit of
exploration.
Artist
statement: "I strive to make my work edgy, with
multi-layered surfaces of revealing contradictions, such as:
high-energy movements versus passive quietness; array versus
order; and fully embodied color versus subtle and seductive
somberness. These dualities involve the conscious and the
subconscious. My goal is to create signature works making a
conscious effort toward a balance of deliberate decisions
coupled with the sheer joy of painting impulsively. This
personal manner of expression is challenging,
self-revealing, yet obvious to the viewer." |
